After many trials and long waits, I picked up my 86mm stroker VW crank from the grinder today. I had him match the taper to the inside of the Force 1 hub. To illustrate how the Force 1 hub fits the 3° nose taper, he sprayed blue layout fluid on the crank nose, let it dry, and then twisted the hub onto the crank. Then he removed the hub to reveal a perfect transfer, it could not fit any better.
I also finished the installation of a longer bed on my lathe, so now my cam fits in it. I'll turn the cast diameters down so that the Arp rod caps clear the cam. We are on our way to a nice 2287cc for my Sonerai IILS. And we are happy!

Ha! Pete, I might relieve a customer's cam or make custom fittings, but I don't think I want to get into custom engine building beyond my own. That pattern is kinda full. A cut case half VW with a 86mm crank, Arp Racing Rods, and 94mm nikasil cylinders would be a great lil' thumper though. Tom

Just kidding Tom. I've built a few V Dubs. Lost the urge. Scott Casler will do mine. I don't need the extra work.

Haa, I know you were, Pete. If I didn't have a full time job I'd build a few. As it is, it looks like I'll be collecting full SS and working full time for a few more years (God willing, and my health continues to be excellent). Shoot, even if I retired tomorrow, I'd still have 12 hours of work to do every day, but I bet it would be more fun, lol.

I have no idea how I had time to work before I retired. Never realized how much work gets in the way.
