A perfect first SAA gathering in the Southeast is the upcoming Triple Tree Aerodrome Fly-In near Woodruff, SC. The airfield (SC00) has a 7,000' X 400' grass runway as smooth as a golf fairway. Camping, food, showers, workshops, seminars, live music - this is quickly becoming the 'Rockford' of the Southeast. I understand that our fearless leader, Ed Fisher, will have a display at "TT". For details see www.tripletreeaerodrome.com/triple-tree-fly-in.php

It looks like I'll be bringing the family to Triple Tree for the first time this year. We'll be arriving by car on Friday, and camping through Sunday. I look forward to meeting as many SAA members as possible while we're there. Hopefully some local folks from northern Virginia.
Ed - Bring your Mong pics, I'd love to look them over and pick your brain!

Just a quick note to anyone flying near the Charlotte area in route to TT. There will be TFRs in effect I believe sept 3 thru the 6. The democratic convention will be in town and a 30 mile dia. TFR will be moving as the show travels around! Its a pain! I Just would hate for anyone to wander into the area unknowingly and get spanked! Even r/c are grounded!! Butch

I haven't reviewed the TFR yet, but under normal TFR's, an active VFR or IFR flight plan will get you between the inner and outer rings. Of course, that still requires a radio and transponder, but it's better than avoiding the area entirely.
A quick call to 1-800-WX-BRIEF can answer any questions, but they probably won't have the details until 72 hours before the TFR goes "hot".

Hi All, I am a new SAA member (yesterday). I have attached the graphic of the current clt democratic convention tfr. Notice that it is a 35 mile radius centered on downtown Charlotte and covers airports that are outside the normal 30 mile mode C veil. Our local EAA chapter was briefed by the FAA on Monday. They implied that the TFR may be cancelled by late Friday but it is certainly not for sure. Call a briefer to confirm. I will be leaving on Saturday morning for Triple Tree since I am inside the tfr. Here is the faa link: www.faasafety.gov/files/notices/2012/Jul/120730_Published_DNC_Flight_Advisory.pdfHappy flying y'all, Hal

Boy, now my 'Karma' is gonna be -1. Great way to start off my membership. Hal

Any official SAA "meet-ups" planned for Triple Tree?
We're getting our tent and camping gear in order. Looking forward to it.

Weather permitting, I plan to fly my corvair powered Pietenpol to Tripletree on Friday morning and depart Saturday afternoon.
Got a note from Barry Davis, Big Piet group of Carrolton, Ga. who said that some 30 plus members of his chapter were coming along with 2-3 Pietenpols.
Pietenpols are as "grass roots" as any plane can be.

Pardon my manners, I should have at least added my name to the last post.
Pietflyer is P. F. Beck Barnwell, S. C. and if Ed wants to conduct some sort of impromptu forum, I'l offer to assist.
Last year at the Corvair College held at Barnwell airport [ KBNL ] ,because of many requests, I did a forum on Pietenpols in my hangar...building tips, do's and don'ts, gave numerous rides. Will likely do the same again this year.

I have been asked to do a 1 hr. talk at Triple Tree, on Friday, Sept. 7th, at 3 p.m. The topic will be 'Traditional Homebuilding and the SAA' If we can, we can work some discussion about your traditional homebuilding experiences with your Piet....Ed Fisher

No 'official' meet ups planned for Triple-Tree, although we members can congregate around one of our tents one evening if somebody wants to......I may camp there, and I may drive back home each night...(It is under 90 miles) Either way, hope for good weather. I have a small booth space leased, and will have T-shirts and hats for sale, and will be prepared to sign up new members. I am departing home early thursday a.m.....Travel safe everyone.......Ed
