I have been noticing there has been little discussion activity during the past few months here since the recent passing of President Paul. I am hoping that SAA will continue to grow and restore the support that is needed for grassroots aviation, especially for the average home builder. I believe the EAA has done many great things in the past and they still do but in my opinion they are not as interested in the middle class aviator as they once were. I have been an EAA member for over 26 years and have recently decided to let my membership expire this year, mostly due to my previous observation. I am more than willing to send my membership dues to the SAA to keep this organization rolling and supporting the people in this arena.
I just want to say thank you to the SAA membership that manage this board and provide us with a growing publication.
Terry

Hi Terry, Welcome to the forum. Good Comments. Yes, There is less activity here than when the site was started. The SAA members who are officers and directors are all volunteers, and everyone is busy. When the forum was created, I had hoped that the general membership would contribute on a regular basis, and liven up the site with useful comments, contributions, pictures, etc. Our biggest challenge is to have the membership contribute stories, articles, high quality pictures, to help fill out this forum, as well as our magazine, 'To Fly'. This fall, SAA invested in completely new software packages to build the magazine more efficiently. There is a learning curve here with your volunteers, so the magazine has been delayed. I hope that the content portrayed on this forum is not full of posts and topics by Ed Fisher and a few others, instead, I hope that an increasing number of members will get involved. This organization is designed to be for the members, and by the members. Our non-political stance, and AD-FREE publication is a challenge with our limited resources, but SAA will continue to move forward provided that the members take a more active roll. SAA is committed to support the need for 'grassroots aviation', but SAA needs the support of its members to carry out that roll…. Thank you for your comments, Ed Fisher

Hi Terry and thank you for the support and encouragement for SAA. As Ed mentioned there have been several changes lately but we are all looking to the future. This last year and a half, the start up, went fast and a lot of interest was shown by the membership. Our fly ins were a success and a reflection of who we are. Grassroots, laid back with no hype. We all had a good time. Growing pains? Well yes, our passion for homebuilding and sport Aviation brought use all together, we are builders. Our interest brought use together but likewise put us to tasks that is sometimes foreign to us. For Ed and myself, I know a welding torch feels a lot more comfortable to us than a computer! Thanks again and bare with us as we work through the grow and changes. Butch Harvey. Have a Happy Thanksgiving!

Our mission goals are reinforced in a nice article that is appearing in the latest (December/January) 'Midwest Flyer Magazine' out of Wisconsin. Author and SAA member Ed Leineweber put the piece in their 'Grassroots, Recreational Flying' column. The article grew out of an interview Ed had with Ed Fisher. Check it out!!
