Wow, those are pretty important diagonals. What was the builder thinking...... They keep the engine from hitting the pavement with a hard landing. I would carefully check the Upper longeron at station B, where The main front cabane welds on. Look for stress, bends, or a crack there.... In this case, loads were heading back thru the cabane, and the rear cabane does not have an aft diagonal. so the load path was interrupted......Ed

Ed (and all you other great SAA members),
Sorry it took so long to reply...
I am finally getting back in the garage after a busy family-filled late summer/fall. I have pulled the A-65 from the fuselage, and am starting again into the process of cleaning the fuselage.
I will ABSOLUTELY check all of the areas and dimensions you've specified, Ed. Your experience and insight are invaluable.
I'll throw this out there for public consumption... If there are any members in the northern Virginia region, feel free to get in touch. I'd be happy to have you over to the garage to look over the Ace, or out to the Airpark to see the Quickie project. I'm free most evenings.

Thanks for the update, Wayne. It makes 'hobby' more special when you have to be away from it for other reasons…That's what I am experiencing as well these days. Have fun on the Ace….ED
