Hello group, the SAA held a board meeting recently, and one of several topics to be discussed was our presence in the 'Fly-In world'. We have discussed having multiple 'gatherings' thru out the year to gain regional support and exposure. We explored the Barnwell Regional airport, and with P.F.Beck's encouragement and support, have decided to make a 'Barnwell, S.C. first annual SAA Fly-In' a reality. With several other areas to consider, we are looking at a couple sites in the midwest/great lakes region for a mid-summer event as well, and Hope to have a booth and member attendance at the Fall Triple-Tree fly in also. Much work lays ahead to accomplish, but we are excited to have a stand alone Fly-In to put together. The dates will be April 5th and 6th, which puts people from the north in our area while on their way to Sun-N-Fun, which begins on the 9th of April. Much more info will be coming forth, both here, and in our 'To Fly' publication, due out in March.....Ed Fisher.

You will be seeing the news on Facebook, as well our new 'Electronic SAA News' coming out, and in our Spring 'TO FLY'....That we are a definate 'GO' for the 'Barnwell SAA Gathering 2013' to be held April 5th and 6th., 2013. A laid back picnic type atmosphere will prevail, And Barnwell Regional Airport, Situated in South Central South Carolina is a great Fuel Stop for Travelers from the North, headed to the Sun-N- Fun fly-in . Primitive camping areas are available, as well as a lunch food concession. This will give SAA members a place and time to congregate, and enjoy fellowship, and look at some nice airplanes. Both evenings I will have a brief talk about the Mission of SAA. Also, I will take this opportunity to introduce the officers and directors of SAA. Many topics, including the ramp up of the Regional Representative program, will be discussed.......For more info contact me at raceair77@gmail.com Thanks, Ed

Well, the first Barnwell, S.C. SAA Gathering is History!! Despite lousy weather Thursday and Friday, the Event came together with great success on Saturday, April 6th. Friday dawned wet and cold, with 400' ceilings. By late morning it broke a bit, allowing four aircraft to arrive just before noon. The earliest arrival award went to Bill Jeffers of Edgefield Co., S.C. in his Piper Colt. Later Friday several more aircraft and people arrived, and the forcast for Saturday sounded good. Saturday AM the event ramped up, and the weather cooperated fully. In the end, 36 aircraft were on display. Early afternoon found P.F. Beck conducting an interesting and informative talk/demonstration on propeller carving. At 2:30 pm, Ed Fisher had a short talk and presented SAA member Ray Sheffield with the 'Best Workmanship' award for his Rans S-19, Member Pete Christensen Copped the 'Longest Distance' award for flying his Kitfox 3 over 1300 miles from Leander, Tx !!!, and Vice President Butch Harvey was presented with an outstanding achievement award for his Volunteer contributions and Can-do attitude for the SAA. Many thanks to member P.F. Beck and his able crew of volunteers who did every small task, and large one, and made the gathering go quite smooth. More complete coverage will be coming with the SAA E-news updates. ED
